Our advanced technologies including our medical diagnostic imaging technology for testing and advanced technology for Vision Therapy are listed below:
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
is a sophisticated medical diagnostic imaging technology which uses light to perform high-resolution cross-sectional imaging in tissues in particular the retina. We have recently invested in upgrading our OCT technology to provide higher-definition imaging even faster.
It is a non-invasive scanning procedure used as a diagnostic aid in the detection and management of eye diseases including, but not limited to, macular conditions such as age-related macula degeneration, macula holes, swelling, epiretinal membranes and vitreo-retinal adhesion, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
The OCT results are analysed and saved and can provide an accurate reference for future comparison and can be electronically forwarded to an ophthalmologist for assessment should this be required.
Optomap
We have recently upgraded our Optos Optomap to the latest version which gives higher resolution & wider images than ever before!
Optomap is an exciting medical diagnostic imaging technology. The Optomap ultra-wide field digital imaging system captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Three low-powered laser wavelengths scan simultaneously to produce up to a 200-degree internal view of the retina. Traditional methods typically reveal only 10 to 15% of the retina at one time.
It is a non-invasive diagnostic aid in the detection of eye diseases including, but not limited to, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachment, retinal melanoma, retinitis pigmentosa, age-related macula degeneration, glaucoma.
The Optomap results are analysed and saved and can provide an accurate reference for future comparison and can be forwarded to a consulting ophthalmologist for assessment should this be required.
Corneal topography
Medmont Corneal Topography is non-invasive imaging technique for 3D mapping of the surface of the cornea at the front of the eye. It provides essential information about corneal shape to analyse and monitor corneal abnormalities and disease as well as for the accurate fitting of hard contact lenses including Orthokeratology lenses that reshape the cornea when worn when sleeping.
The Corneal Topographer can also be used for to evaluate tear film quality with a dynamic video feature. Tear film quality is an important test in Dry Eye Assessment.
Pachymetry
The Pachymeter is used to measure the thickness of your cornea within a micron (a millionth of a meter). Corneal thickness is critical for glaucoma assessment when differentiating whether a measurement of raised eye pressure (a risk factor for glaucoma) is actually due to fluid pressure in the eye or a thicker than average cornea resulting in over-estimation of the pressure reading. It is also important for assessment of keratoconus and pre-assessment before referral for laser refractive surgery.
Colorimetry
The Intuitive Colorimeter was developed by Professor Arnold Wilkins and the Medical Research Council in the United Kingdom and is supported by research studies and peer reviewed controlled trials.
The colorimeter is used to logically, sequentially and precisely determine the optimal colour that may be applied to lenses to relieve a condition referred to as Visual Stress (also known as Meares-Irlen Syndrome). This may be of benefit from some individuals with photosensitivity issues including migraine and epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis as well as some types of reading difficulties in which the patterns of high contrast text become visually stressful to look at. It is thought that 5% of the population may be severely affected by Visual Stress and up to 20% to a lesser degree.
ReadAlyzer
The ReadAlyzer is a computerised Eye Movement Recording System which is used to objectively record and analyse eye movements during reading. We often use this device during the visual information processing (VIP) evaluation.
A ReadAlyzer process is simple and not time-consuming and a recording is made of how each eye moves while reading an age or developmentally-appropriate passage. Analysis of fixation number and duration, saccades in return sweeps, regressions, reading rate, anomalous movements, loss of binocularity and comprehension is made.
Results are given at the end of the test and saved, so providing an accurate reference for future comparison, particularly following vision therapy treatment.

Costs for assessments utilising sophisticated technology
These special services use the latest highly sophisticated equipment and most are not covered by Medicare.
However, Medicare has approved that a fee may be charged in addition to our normal consultation fee.
We are now able to offer a 15% discount on some of our speciality services to Pensioner Concession Card holders.
