Optometrist
Ms Jenny Currie
Jenny graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1984 and proceeded to enjoy a broad range of work experience in Melbourne, Newcastle and the USA. She has earned Fellowships with the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and the Australian College of Optometry (ACO).
A Queenslander by birth, Jenny returned to the Sunshine Coast in 1993 and has been working in the area ever since. In January 2008 Jenny joined colleague Heather McLeod in a business partnership to form optometry@cooroy. She is married with two now adult step-children.
Jenny most enjoys the varied practice that Cooroy provides with the opportunity to help patients of all ages. She has decades of experience in general optometry, contact lens practice (including an area of speciality contact lens fitting – Orthokeratology) and children’s vision care including assessment and treatment of learning-related vision problems & binocular vision dysfunction. More recently she has developed an interest in and receives referrals for optometric treatment (including lenses, prisms, neurological filters and vision therapy) for vision problems related to Acquired Brain Injury including Post-Concussion Vision Syndrome. She is in the process of acquiring Certification in Neuro-optometric Vision Care (ANOC) and should complete this process later in 2024.
In late 2019 Jenny completed studies for the Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics with the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. She is now qualified to prescribe a range of topical ocular pharmaceuticals for the treatment of eye disease and is enjoying the expanded range of optometric practice this allows.
In July 2024 she was awarded the Certificate in Neuro-optometric Vision Care (ANOC) through the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO).
Jenny is a keen bicycle tourist and has clocked up thousands of km’s touring parts of Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe including the Danube and with her husband Ray, the classic UK End to End ride from Lands End in Cornwall at the bottom to John O’ Groats in Scotland at the top. The couple have stayed closer to home in the last few years enjoying the multiple trails of Central Otago in New Zealand and the Kilkivan to Kingaroy and Brisbane Valley Rails Trails.
Optometrist
Miss Tira Kyreakou
We are pleased to say that our newest Optometrist has settled well into her role in our practice since arriving in Queensland in August 2024 and has been accepted well by our clientele who have been impressed by her thorough examinations and friendly manner.
Tira grew up in Central Australia, spending her younger years in Yulara (Ayers Rock), before moving to Alice Springs to attend and complete high school. She is an early career optometrist who graduated from Deakin University in Victoria with a Bachelor of Vision Science with Distinction & Master of Optometry (incorporating Ocular Therapeutics).
Tira thoroughly enjoys connecting with patients and working in diverse and challenging settings. She has particular interest in children’s vision (specifically binocular vision), corneal disorders and myopia control. Applying her knowledge of ocular therapeutics in anterior eye disease management and glaucoma co-management are also areas of interest for this young professional.
Tira has also commenced gaining experience and expanding her knowledge into the specialised area of Behavioural Optometry for which our practice is well known.
Outside of work, Tira loves enjoying the sunshine at the beach and keeping active both in and out of the gym. She loves exploring the great outdoors and is eager to become more familiar with the beautiful areas surrounding Cooroy and the rest of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
Tira is available for consultation 5 days a week, from Monday – Friday.
