Jenny graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1984 & proceeded to enjoy a broad range of work experience in Melbourne, Newcastle & the USA. She has earned Fellowships with the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) & the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) & the Australian College of Optometry (ACO).
A Queenslander by birth, Jenny returned to the Sunshine Coast in 1993 & has been working in the area ever since. In January 2008 Jenny joined colleague Heather McLeod in a business partnership to form optometry@cooroy. She is married with two now adult step-children.
Jenny most enjoys the varied practice that Cooroy provides with the opportunity to help patients of all ages. She has decades of experience in general optometry, contact lens practice (including an area of speciality contact lens fitting - Orthokeratology) & children’s vision care including assessment & treatment of learning-related vision problems & binocular vision dysfunction. More recently she has developed an interest in and receives referral for optometric treatment for vision problems related to Acquired Brain Injury.
In late 2019 Jenny completed studies for the Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics with the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. She is now qualified to prescribe a range of topical ocular pharmaceuticals for the treatment of eye disease and is enjoying the expanded range of optometric practice this allows.
Jenny is a keen bicycle tourist & has clocked up thousands of km’s touring parts of Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe & in 2016, with her husband Ray, she completed a classic UK End to End ride from Lands End in Cornwall at the bottom to John O' Groats in Scotland at the top. When travelling was somewhat limited in 2020 due to COVID, she and Ray cycle toured the combined Kilkivan to Kingaroy & Brisbane Valley Railtrails on mountain bikes. She and Ray are cautiously planning a return to cycle touring some of New Zealand in 2023.
Jenny founded the Sunshine Coast Bicycle Touring Club in 1994. The club has since grown to more than 200 members.
Jenny is available for consultation 4 days a week: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Miss Kate Weller
We are pleased to say that our newest Optometrist has settled very well into her role in our practice after arriving in Queensland from Victoria in June 2020, along with her canine companion Rudy. Kate has been busy since her arrival & has been accepted well by our clientelle who have been impressed with her thorough examinations & friendly manner.
Kate grew up in the border town of Echuca on the Murray River in Victoria. She graduated from Flinders University in South Australia in 2014 with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) & Master of Optometry (incorporating Ocular Therapeutics). She spent 5 years working in the Central Goldfields region of Victoria before moving to the Sunshine Coast.
Kate finds the diversity of optometry practice and that of her patients exciting. She is always up for a challenge and enjoys working with children's vision, myopia control, contact lenses and dry eye. Applying her ocular therapeutics qualification with glaucoma co-management, anterior eye disease and foreign body removal is another area of keen interest for this enthusiastic young professional.
Outside of work Kate enjoys an active lifestyle involving a multitude of sporting activities and time exploring the Sunny Coast with her furry pal Rudy.
Kate is available for consultation 4 days a week: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.
